I think both are true.

She is an Uzumaki, since in the flashback we got when Sasuke stabbed her, she was on the Chunnin exams with her red head, which is a quality that Uzumaki clan has.
And I think it is likely that her regenerative skill is the result of Orochimaru experimenting on her.
