Long over-due video essay written with nothing but fact checking and venom.

I'm not Pro-Hilary or Pro-Trump, please stay on topic as we talk about the terrifying similarities between Kanye West & Donald Trump.

I definitely don't think Kanye West deserves the presidency either. He's proven himself to be an unstably emotional person. He's basically a Donald Trump in the womb.

He's a genuinely tragic person who I don't want to hate as much as I do haha, he definitely needs help. And not just that huge sum of debt he's in.

Love the excerpt where he flies off the hook shouting how he's the glitch princess girl from Disney's Wreck-It Ralph. The awkward, scary silence after as the interviewer realises he's not joking at all.

He sounds butthurt.
I don't see important similarities between the two of them.

As for Hillary, she is a politican for a long time, but screwed up since she started. So I don't see how Trump could be worse than her, actually he will have advisors who help him.

I watched through the entire video and based on the points the narrator made, I have to disagree. He makes the argument that the sensationalist reaction the media, social media, and Trump's position as a celebrity is the reason as to why he was able to run for president. People forget that the beginning of the election that his announcement to run for president was received on deaf ears; no one took him seriously and the media gave him little to no coverage towards the beginning of his campaign. He also had zero backing or support from any major foundations or corporations since he was funding his own campaign. It was only after his performance at his rallies and during the republican primary debates that he began to gain the attention of everyone across the country. He'd demolished all 17 politicians that were running against him during the primaries, and is now the republican candidate for this years presidency; his "fame" could only take him so far.

Also, the comparison between Kanye West and Donald Trump was pretty weak. He focuses on how outrageous Kanye's declaration of running for president then projects that on to Donald Trump and says, "Donald Trump is a celebrity too". He fails to focus on how Donald Trump came to fame, and that was through his many successful business ventures and his overwhelming amount of wealth. Trump may not be a politician, but he's a business man and what businessmen are good at is understanding economics and making good judgement, two requirements needed to fill a presidential position, and two weak-points that politicians have. Those qualities are now the driving point behind his candidacy. When you compare Donald Trump's background to Kanye West's outside of being a celebrity, you'll notice a great contrast. Kanye West is a rapper and came to fame through rap. There are no skills in producing music that coincide with running a business, yet alone a country. To add on top of that, Kanye does not have the best track record when it comes to his business ventures within the clothing industry and music industry. I believe the man is currently in debt for 20 million dollars after Tidal sorta flopped.

TL; DR aside from being famous and having outrageous personalities, the similarities between Trump and Kanye are far in between.

I'm coming from my CHM 1025 class, hence the long comment lol. We constantly have to expand on concepts in that class, and it's sorta spreading on to here.

I laugh if y'all take Kanye seriously as if he could even be nominated to run for office.
Kanye basically is a media troll.
Media desensitisation means that even humouring this makes the future rocky. Sure, only in the most 'Black Mirror' nightmare would he be literally be nominated but last generation- presidents and president nominees wouldn't have acknowledged such a stupid and vapid TV moment. Generation before that shallow celebrities like West and Kardashians wouldn't even exist as the media beings they are.

I can tell you we're not far away from this kind of joke candidate being taken seriously when Donald J. Trump, a media face and head of a reality TV show himself (as well as the WWE clip lol) has gotten this far.

Also a media troll? He lies for attention sure, but you're giving him too much credit. He's the joke in his own jokes if that were the case.

'Butthurt' was all you needed to say to invalidate yourself from the chat, cheers ;o

But all of his advisors are proven Yes-men who, some of which (moreso the judges, he doesn't even know what their policies or core beliefs are...just that they're 'great and they've said very nice things about me'. Which is all that matters for toddler-level Trump.

Thanks for the meaty reply, I wasn't aiming for a direct link between how the men are similar but moreso how Kanye could easily be treated and rise to power in a similar way.

I'd also argue the power of a name and the 'loudest most shocking' opinion doesn't need the media to build early traction but it's still sensationalism.

I have to agree with this.

OT: But yeah, in general politics and celebrity culture shouldn't mix.

True, I can't deny the sensationalism behind the idea of a celebrity running for president. I know for a fact that the last president of Haiti was a famous music artist who won the election based on his status as a celebrity, for the most part. The same goes for Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming governor of California.
