I watched through the entire video and based on the points the narrator made, I have to disagree. He makes the argument that the sensationalist reaction the media, social media, and Trump's position as a celebrity is the reason as to why he was able to run for president. People forget that the beginning of the election that his announcement to run for president was received on deaf ears; no one took him seriously and the media gave him little to no coverage towards the beginning of his campaign. He also had zero backing or support from any major foundations or corporations since he was funding his own campaign. It was only after his performance at his rallies and during the republican primary debates that he began to gain the attention of everyone across the country. He'd demolished all 17 politicians that were running against him during the primaries, and is now the republican candidate for this years presidency; his "fame" could only take him so far.
Also, the comparison between Kanye West and Donald Trump was pretty weak. He focuses on how outrageous Kanye's declaration of running for president then projects that on to Donald Trump and says, "Donald Trump is a celebrity too". He fails to focus on how Donald Trump came to fame, and that was through his many successful business ventures and his overwhelming amount of wealth. Trump may not be a politician, but he's a business man and what businessmen are good at is understanding economics and making good judgement, two requirements needed to fill a presidential position, and two weak-points that politicians have. Those qualities are now the driving point behind his candidacy. When you compare Donald Trump's background to Kanye West's outside of being a celebrity, you'll notice a great contrast. Kanye West is a rapper and came to fame through rap. There are no skills in producing music that coincide with running a business, yet alone a country. To add on top of that, Kanye does not have the best track record when it comes to his business ventures within the clothing industry and music industry. I believe the man is currently in debt for 20 million dollars after Tidal sorta flopped.
TL; DR aside from being famous and having outrageous personalities, the similarities between Trump and Kanye are far in between.
I'm coming from my CHM 1025 class, hence the long comment lol. We constantly have to expand on concepts in that class, and it's sorta spreading on to here.
