Ahh sharpening on smudges make it look better. Its pretty good imo.

Adding topaz would look better than sharpening the whole tag,anyway for second try you did a good job.

Awesome smudge, next time try to avoid empty spaces (like the pitch black in the corners), you can either make your smudge fade out to the corners or make some sort of black/gray mixed smudge background to help it not look so empty, either way your flow is awesome and your transitioning into different shades is really well done, nice job
