Ever since he was a child Kaneki has the same features as he is now an adult. At first, Kaneki thought he was just a ordinary Uchiha who attended an ordinary life as a citizen of the Leaf Village. Kaneki just was first starting off was a natural young man with fairly normal interests such as studying and discussing philosophy with his friends. As he aged, he felt more and more disconnected with society but still kept his close hobbies such as reading and debating and his tastes in women reflected this as well. Ken is also very shy and reserved. He always had a positive outlook on life and was always gentle and many of these aspects he adopted from his mother. Due to his gentle nature however, he was often bullied and taken advantage of by his peers. Another aspect of his mother that he adopted was his indecisiveness and weak resolve to take action.
Kaneki worked at a group called Anteiku. A coffee shop. He was just a normal guy until the Akatsuki came into action. Without a step into action a man with a Red cloak came inside the shop of Anteiku in the the inner Konoha district. A man raided the shop and took Kaneki, where he was experimented on. After the experiments took place, this personality was pushed back in his consciousness and another personality emerged from the torturer that conducted the acts upon him. This personality was ruthless and able to kill without hesitation. This personality however was still restricted by Ken’s resolve to not kill people but would kill if it meant to protect himself or those close to him. At this time, he also lost the indecisiveness that his former personality had and was able to form a strong resolve that would move him to action. He was tortured for ten straight days and a lot of stressed took place in that time and caused his hair to completely turn white/light gray.
Personality
Kaneki was a shy and reserved person with Hazama being his only close friend. He usually spends most of his time reading books, mostly novels. He is extremely gentle and appears to be optimistic most of the time. Influenced by his mother and a true testament of modesty, he willingly takes blame and punishment from others so that he can be someone who doesn't hurt people but rather "the person getting hurt". However, this lack of assertiveness normally gets him bullied and taken advantage of.
However, beneath his selfless and gentle nature is an underlying fear of being alone. Ever since his mother died, Kaneki has developed his personality to resemble his mother's. He despises the idea of solitude, hence he tries to protect those dear to him so he would not have to face his fears of being alone in the world.
This is perhaps his greatest weakness and act of selfishness. Since Kaneki is always trying to protect others, he is essentially trying to protect himself from becoming alone again. Therefore to escape that scenario, he would shoulder the task of protecting other onto himself without looking for others to help him. This is also the reason why Kaneki seems to reject the notion of "living" because to him, watching others die before him is the beginning of returning to those lonely days without anyone behind him.
Sometimes Kaneki can feel his Uchiha self awaken partially though he clings to his human side. To keep his life in the human world (Non Ninja), he began to work at a coffee shop within Konoha called Anteiku in the Uchiha district of Konoha and had built relationships with the other Uchiha's there. Because of his experiences, he had started to have interest in becoming stronger and began reading martial art books so that he could protect himself and the people close to him. He was troubled with the fact that if he awakens his Sharingan and he changes and the people at Anteiku look at him different. If people close to him are threatened, Kaneki will try to protect them even he is the one who gets hurt the most instead.
After his time being held captive by a member of the Akatsuki and undergoing constant torture by the hands of that guy, Kaneki's personality changes. He becomes more ruthless and brutal in order to protect his friends, all the while maintaining complete composure. Kaneki had the blood of a Uchiha in him, there was nothing he could do but "accept" it. He no longer feared his Uchiha side and as a result, he becomes much more cold and barbaric during battles such as when he would literally eat someone whole in order to strengthen himself. By embracing his Uchiha nature wholeheartedly by thirsting for power even though his Sharingan hasn't been awakened, Kaneki has given up being a normal "human" and decided to become a Shinobi and left the Leaf.
While still capable of showing his previous gentle nature to those he cares about, he can automatically turn merciless with a blink of an eye against his enemies or those he does not trust, such as Tsukiyama, a man that once wanted to kill Kaneki but at the same time wanted to work with him. A member of his formed crew, Banjou hypothesized that Kaneki has developed some form of mental instability during his time in the village of Iwagakure and that this would gradually wear him down.
"You’re weak Drackos. At this rate, he will kill your Squad. You can’t protect anything. Look at me…you’re so cold. You know you need me. You want this right? Just accept me."
After looking for the guy who tortured him and attacking him, he enters a period of soul-searching, seeking to reclaim his normal life side as well as becoming uncertain about the path he has taken to become stronger. He also starts to really question and seek answers from individuals such as Uta, Yomo, and Yoshimura (workers in the village) in order to understand the incidents that have happened around him since he turned into a shinobi. But later he began to accept it all. He needed power to protect those that he cared for, but at the same time he barely remembers why he kills and strives for power.

Kaneki was born in the village of Konoha. He was an ordinary person within the village but had the Uchiha bloodline within him. He wasn't a shinobi, though. Kaneki loved reading books, as well as eating cafe burgers with his friend at his favorite shop within Konoha, Anteiku. Though once, Kaneki went home and had a sudden urge. An urge that he was gonna suddenly awaken his sharingan, but those were nothing more than urges. When he had got those urges he spewed out spit, more like coughed and started saying something.
Flesh, flesh, flesh flesh, eat, flesh.
After saying that over repeatedly he went out for a walk, hungry and wanted to eat. He walked over to a nearby alley and seen a guy with blonde hair. The guy immediately ran in for a attack and ram sacked Kaneki. He was a shinobi, but wasn't from Konoha. Blood spilled rapidly from Kaneki and he was still being attacked, until a figure appeared before him. A woman with purple hair and wore a dress. Somebody that Kaneki surely remembered.
A worker at Anteiku?!
It was the worker at Anteiku, he thought she was nothing more than a normal civilian in Konoha but it seemed shes been living some type of double life. She wasn't ordinary but strong. She easily took down the guy and approached Kaneki. Touka questioned him, asking why was he out at such a late time and punched him backwards until the manager at Anteiku showed up. He told her to stop what she was doing and asked Kaneki did he want some place to work. Kaneki had accepted but was uneasy about the things that were to come.
One sudden day, working at Anteiku someone came inside. This man wore a black cloak with red clouds around it. He didn't know it but it was a member of the rogue crew, Akatsuki. He took down all the members of Anteiku but left Kaneki wide open and clean. It seemed this particular member wanted the blood of a Uchiha. Nothing Kaneki could do, he was taken by the member to his secret hideout where he was tortured. Kaneki was chained down to a chair being experimented on, crazily. One by one he picked off his finger nails and waited for them to grow back, just to pick them off again. Each time he did it and it regrew he made Kaneki count, and count, and count. Before they knew, Kaneki wasn't even sane anymore.
987, 988, 989, 990, 991, 992, 993!
He cried over and over each time he counted out loud. The thing that kept Kaneki from fighting was if awakening his Uchiha blood would effect him and effect his friends, making them afraid of his power, or would change their perception from him. While the Akatsuki member was looking for another tool to torture Kaneki with, he had another urge. But this one was like no other. He was tired of this. He began just say forget what his friends think, he'd have to protect them at any cost, even for the sake of going insane. He just accepted it all. Even though his Sharingan didn't awaken, a new Kaneki did. Due to being tortured for over 10 straight days, there was stress also brung upon. This stress caused his hair to completely turn a grayish white. But that wasn't the rest of his change. After his finger and toenails grew back they were the color black. His personality even took a deep turn. He was a completely newborn figure.
Kaneki just sat in the chair, faced down. Thinking. The Akatsuki member finally found what tool to use next, it was a wrench. He kept screaming words out of fun, it seemed he adored torturing un-riped fruits. "Kanekiiiiiiii~ Let me take them from you! I'm gonna devour you!" As soon as he screamed out those words Kaneki looked up and said something. Though, it didn't go right with the guys stomach. It reminded him of a woman that once defeated him. He completely rushed forward aiming to kill Kaneki. No. He wanted to do more than that, he wanted to eat him. Once Kaneki accepted who he is, a shinobi, a Uchiha, a power awakened in him. He was physically strong. He broke the chains, quickly ran towards him and jumped across him, biting a chunk of his cheek off without the guy even knowing. He wiped his mouth off, with blood smeared on his face and spoke.
Thats foul. Almost like the intestines of a fish on the verge of spoiling.
The guy was too surprised that Kaneki had bit him. He wouldn't have thought this change would happen, because again, Kaneki was an ordinary boy who just loved to read books, but not anymore. The man came in for another attack and Kaneki tried to deliver a kick, but he stopped it and grabbed his foot, but with the use of Kaneki's strength he used his other leg to kick him and it was successful. The kick was so powerful it blew him back and he crashed into the wall of the hideout. His leg was partially sprained, but he that wasn't nothing compared to the torture hes been put through. The man got up, angry as ever. Kill you..I'll kill you! Ill eat you! I'll make a sloppy mess of you!
Kaneki watched but did nothing but smile while cracking his fingers. Kaneki let himself get attacked. The man used a jutsu that grabbed him and covered up his whole body and threw him across the room, taking full force to the wall. Thing is, Kaneki barely took damage. He got up and took a fighting stance and cracked his fingers once more and began speaking while at the same time took a evil-ish grin. Now...its my turn. He ran and jumped up, clashing with the man back and forth. Kaneki was stronger than him, but wanted to make it worthwhile so he matched up with his skill level. The man screamed his name but by the time he finished, Kaneki got a successful blow in and made him fall, crashing into the ground. He was heavily weakened. Kaneki took a sword and threw it at him, making it go deep into his skin and he started to scream even more, helplessly.
What's one thousand minus seven?
The man didn't answer so Kaneki grabbed another sword and stabbed it inside of him again.
I'll ask again. What's one thousand minus seven? What is one thousand minus seven? What is one thousand minus seven?!
The man screamed again and finally gave him an answer while deeply in pain. N-n-nine hundred... ninety-three. He became so messed up he made him count. He started county endlessly, while at the same time crying in pain and squirming around.
Kaneki just was watching as he was torturing him while sitting on his back and than looked up and tapped his head twice to take a Chinese dragon centipede out of his ear that was put in by the man while Kaneki was being tortured at the time.
You tried to devour me, so you have no room to complain... if I eat you, do you?
He then later became a shinobi, left Konoha, joined Iwagakure and has been trained under Hazama. (Will be explained waay more throughly next update.) -To be continued.-

Having such proficiency that he is able to use Fire technique with the need of a single handseal, and earth techniques with increased speed. Performing up to 10 earth handseal, in the time it takes to perform only 3. Because of this, Kaneki has been one to show not only close combat, but also Ninjutsu oriented performance.

His calm and collected demeanor allows Kaneki to create powerful counterattacks against his foes. He is well versed in history with knowledge that spans back to the ages of the Sage of the Six Paths.

Kaneki has displayed extremely sharp reflexes and a high degree of speed and agility: he was shown capable of evading a combo attack from two opponents at once, in which the former's fire acted as a medium to greatly enhance the latter's attack speed, without much effort, and could also keep up with the two of them in a fast exchange of blows, managing to parry their melee assaults and at the same time to counter-attack with his earth techniques and skilled speed. Kaneki's abilities made him well suited for close-range combat fighting, demonstrating tremendous taijutsu skills combined with equally impressive speed, agility, and dexterity. He was able to defeat 2 opponents at the same time without taking any hits.

Kaneki is a highly-skilled user in a large variety of weapons such as bows and arrows, kusarigama, chains, wire strings and others. Soon after he was experimented on, Kakashi had highly proficient skill in kenjutsu, able to wield a sacred sword and using it efficiently. His weapon-skills are also very adaptable, even to be challenged by the Wind God sword, wielded by Shady Doctor. He can also enhance his physical tools , channeling lightning-nature or wind chakra through them.

The man got up, angry as ever. Kill you..I'll kill you! Ill eat you! I'll make a sloppy mess of you!
Kaneki watched but did nothing but smile while cracking his fingers. Kaneki let himself get attacked. The man used a jutsu that grabbed him and covered up his whole body and threw him across the room, taking full force to the wall. Thing is, Kaneki barely took damage. He got up and took a fighting stance and cracked his fingers once more and began speaking while at the same time took a evil-ish grin. Now...its my turn. He ran and jumped up, clashing with the man back and forth. Kaneki was stronger than him, but wanted to make it worthwhile so he matched up with his skill level. The man screamed his name but by the time he finished, Kaneki got a successful blow in and made him fall, crashing into the ground. He was heavily weakened. Kaneki took a sword and threw it at him, making it go deep into his skin and he started to scream even more, helplessly.
What's one thousand minus seven?
The man didn't answer so Kaneki grabbed another sword and stabbed it inside of him again.
I'll ask again. What's one thousand minus seven? What is one thousand minus seven? What is one thousand minus seven?!
The man screamed again and finally gave him an answer while deeply in pain. N-n-nine hundred... ninety-three. He became so messed up he made him count. He started county endlessly, while at the same time crying in pain and squirming around.
Kaneki just was watching as he was torturing him while sitting on his back and than looked up and tapped his head twice to take a Chinese dragon centipede out of his ear that was put in by the man while Kaneki was being tortured at the time.
You tried to devour me, so you have no room to complain... if I eat you, do you?
He then later became a shinobi, left Konoha, joined Iwagakure and has been trained under Hazama. (Will be explained waay more throughly next update.) -To be continued.-
