Suffocation and drowning should work in the same way. Much slower than drowning but the hearts still dont oxygen.

On overrall strenght they are on the same tier, bit Kisame have this:
-Samehada can absorb Fuuton and Raiton attacks
-Kisame superiority over suiton trumps his katon
-And if all fails, Walter dome is the best way to defeat someone with extra lifes (Danzo, Kakuzu, etc.) Once you drown, it doesen't manter if you have more than one hearth.

Kisame takes it.

-Was able to outmanoeuvre Base Killer bee, and v1 Killer bee in canon. He also blocked some of Gai's attacks in his gated form IIRC. Therefore, he has far speed and reactions by feats. So in a CQC, Kisame will suck Kakuzu dry with samaheda.
- The threads get cut apart by Samaheda. GSB counters all of Kakuzu's elemental attacks and his masks.
-Once the water dome comes out, Kakuzu gets wrecked.

Once Kisame absorbs Samehada it's game over... All of the mask abilities are absorbed and Kakuzu gets raped...

I don't think he is the type that samehada could take advantage of by leeching, his jutsu are too straightforward.

he also dominates kisame in cqc, can blow the water dome open & can avoid daikodan underground or counter it from behind/angles.

and fused kisame can't absorb ninjutsu either
