No, thats definetly not right.
Rin was the host of the the Sanbi, a tailed beast.
During Rin's death Kakashi and Rin were surrounded by Mist Nins who wanted to capture Rin to get the Power of the Sanbi
Kakashi killed Rin for the sake of Konohagakure so the enemies wont be able to get this huge powerup.

well explained mate!:) but are you saying that the sanbi died or was trapped on rin as well? misconcluding the fact that we already saw in the anime that it was alive and handled by deidara and tobi.

You're half wrong. Kakashi didn't kill Rin for Konoha. Rin purposely came in the direction of Kakashi's Raikiri and impaled herself with it, so that the Three Tails wouldn't destroy Konoha and the plan of Kiri nins would fail.

you are wrong
rin was captured by the Mist Nins and they sealed the 3 tails inside her so that when she returns to konaha her seal would break and the 3 tails would rampage on the village and in the process destroying the village
rin wanted kakashi to kill her but kakashi did not wanted to kill rin
so rin jumped infront of kakashi's raikiri bcoz she did not wanted to destroy destroy the village and wanted to save everyone and she thought that was the only way to prevent chaos

Kakashi awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan, when Rin died. And it was Obito's borrowed eye. So, both awakened their Mangekyou simultaneously and got the ability of Kamui. Tho, Kakashi's is long range Kamui and Obito's is short range. Rin didn't become a host intentionally. The Kiri nins captured her and sealed the 3 tails inside her and led her free, so that when Kakashi would see her, he would take her back to Konoha. But, Rin foiled their plan, by coming in the direction of Kakashi's Raikiri and hence, sacrificed herself for Konoha.

that isnt explained properly but my theory is that madara set up the whole kidnap rin scene so that obito would watch it and fall into despair

yeah i got that feeling too a long time ago pal :) i really thought there was someone who pulled the strings that led minato's students to be in that tragic scene. and maybe obito's kamui was awakened because of the hatred the he felt when he saw kakashi and rin.

You can say, Obito's Mangekyou got Kamui, because he was fed up of this world. He wanted to create a new world with true peace. You could assume, the new world= the Kamui dimension, in terms of metamorphically speaking.

Kakashi and Obito both awaken the Mangekyou Sharingan at the same time and for the same reason. It was awaken because Rin died, they both experienced something very dramatic in their lives, which lead to its awakening. Obito wished to create a illusion world, under the Genjutsu called Tsukuyomi. Kamui never had anything to do with that concept.

If you wish to use Kamui as an metaphor, then say its a reflection of Obito's inner self after losing everything. A empty, black space where nothing exists other than a little array of hope.
