We already know Amaterasu travels considering Hebi Sasuke managed to react and outrun it for a few seconds and there were lines that indicated Amaterasu's motion as shown here:

Amaterasu follows the line of sight. If itachi sight moves so does the amaterasu flames . Which it is why it appears as a streak following sasuke.
