Hand to hand, Gai would win. His expertise with taijutsu and his speed would overpower Kakashi.

At medium or long distance, Kakashi, due to his jutsus and strategy/quick planning and sharingan. Kakashi could also withstand Gai's gates techniques by using his elemental jutsus in defense, waiting for the gates to end...after each gate ends are the best times for Kakashi to counter attack.

Well i get your point but thats just speculation for example saying kakashi can do amateresu because he has MS sharingan too.
