No matter what Naruto site I go to, it seems quite a few people underrate Kakashi, and make him seem weaker than he really is. Here are a list of reasons i've seen for Kakashi being "weak." There's a logical counters to all of them. When it comes to Kakashi, you can't take things to face value. You have to look underneathe the underneathe to see how strong he is.
He lost to Pain, and his death (if he is dead) served no purpose.

He may not have won the fight with Pain, but not many can. So, anyone that can't stand up to Pain is weak? Kakashi did better on his own against Pain than the other Konoha ninja that were ganging up on single bodies, and couldn't take them down. Also, Kakashi was fighting the strongest two bodies. When the Akimichis showed up, they did nothing but inhibit Kakashi. Kakashi would've done better w/o them. Now, I know they helped ensnair Pain, but Kakashi could've used clones for that part, and I think he would've had "help" not shown up. I say this because when they did show up, Kakashi says "They sayed me some chakra" meaning he doesn't have to use up chakra on the clones, he can just use Chouji & Chouza. Chouza got ko'd by one attack, and Kakashi had to used his MS to save Chouji. Kakashi could've, like I said, used the clones, and have just enough chakra for one MS, which he couldd've, and probably intended, to use against Pain, as opposed to rescuing Chouji. Also, Sandaime died fighting Orochimaru, and nobody calls his death meaningless. He died, and didn't even kill the person he was fighting, and Oro was able to continue on with all of his previous plans.
He's been surpassed by two of his students.

Most teachers are surpassed by their students eventually. It's only natural. Sandaime was surpassed by his students, but he's still a Kage level ninja. Gai may have been surpassed by Neji & Lee, but he's still a powerful ninja to be reckoned with. Also, if you look in the Databooks, Kakashi stats are the same as Sandaime's, or just below Orochimaru, from what i've seen.
He's always beat up in a fight.

Whenever Kakashi is in battle, he's always with ninja that he has to waist time, and energy babysitting. If Kakashi were a ninja that didn't care about his comrades, like he was in the Gaiden, then he wouldn't be having this problem.
He would've died fighting Zabuza if Naruto & Sasuke didn't save him.

He was indeed trapped in Zabuza's water prison, but the only purpose the prison served was to keep Kakashi in one place and out of the way whie he (Zabuza) killed everyone else. If Zabuza wanted to kill Kakashi he would've had to release the prison to get him. And let me tell you, once Kakashi is out, he'll be pretty pissed after Zabuza just finished killing his students, and during their second fight, we see how Kakashi whoops Zabuza when he's pissed. That shows how strong Kakashi is Zabuza couldn't go through Kakashi to get Tazuna, so he had to trap, and go around, him.

This shouldn't make Kakashi weak. Lots of ninja would lose to Kakashi. I mean, Itachi, by himslef, murdered one of the strongest clans in the world, so it's no suprise he could take down Kakashi. The only ninja that may be able to beat Itachi are Pain, Madara, and maybe Jiraiya, since he can almost hang with Pain.
He was scared of Orochimaru

Orochimaru used that Death Viewing jutsu on Kakashi. That's why Kakashi started to freak out. The jutsu can stop anyone in their tracks from what we've seen. Before the viewing jutsu, he wasn't afraid to challenge Oro.

Sasuke been in the hospital, and almost died against Killer Bee, but nobody undermines him. If you're a ninja, a few trips to the hospital is to be expected at some point. At least you'd still be alive.
That's what I mean. You kind of have to really notice the implications of Kakashi's strength. If you take it to face value, you'll think Kakashi is weaker than he really is. I decided to put this thread, when I finished reading the "Is Kakashi Fit for Hokage thread."
