There is actually no real reason behind Kakashi's mask. He doesn't wear it to cover his identity as the son of the white fang, he doesn't cover it because he has scars there or anything like that. He just wears it. The reason Team 7 wanted to know what was under his mask was because they were curious, they seen him every day with it. As for the buck teeth or lips like a blimp, those were suggestions by Naruto to lure Sasuke in. Even I want to know what Kakashi's real face looks like. He is shown once in the Manga without it on, He's also shown in the Anime at Ichiraku's with it pulled down to eat the Ramen. But Team 7 Missed It.
