Of course his sensing ability is not much compared ro tobirama, minato, hashirama and a few more but there are a lot of situations where he was able to recognize the chakra of somebody or something.

He's not a sensor, not like the others you mentioned but he can see chakra with his Sharingan and all skill ninjas can sense if something doesn't feel right. Naruto actually done this as a genin when he was throwing kunais around, one of his target turn out to be a bunny and Kakashi said that bunny was used as a substitution which was Zabuza's. Sasuke as a Genin as well. Itachi shown to sense others from behind him. It's a sense of danger more than what Sensory ninjas can do. Kabuto knew it was Kakashi without having sensing powers at that time

The Sharingan does make you a sensory type since you can see chakra but it's no byakugan. As for knowing Madara was coming, Madara has enormous chakra plus you can see the space warping as he came. Also sensing hug chakra is seen in the manga, Sasuke, Suigetsu and Juugo sensed Naruto's chakra when none of them are sensors as one example and they were all really far away. Kakashi was closer to Naruto when he sensed the small amount of Kurama's chakra.
