It isn't confirmed, so it's not canon. It's speculation amongst some fans - some think it theorectically possible, others think it's ridiculous.

Points to consider;
1. His surname - just because his surname is Hatake, doesn't mean he's not decended from a MATERNAL Senju line. example: Tobirama has a daughter who marries 'Hatake-san', they have a son called Sakumo Hatake who marries and has a son called KAKASHI.
2. His chakra reserve - it's stated as a '3' in the databooks and therefore 'average'. Should consider than not all genetic traits are passed on. example: Tsunade, granddaughter of Hashirama, doesn't have Wood Release, nor any apparent affinity for Earth or Water.
3. Hair - it's a fair enough assumption, what with Kishi's tendency to make redheads Uzumaki related. examples: Karin, Kushina, Nagato. Consider they come from the same village, both are 'elite' shinobi etc it's not unfeasible that distinct hair colour/style is an indicator of bloodlines. Example: Naruto/Minato

Tsunade is the last known Senju in the village as Sasuke is the last known living Uchiha baring Obito's death or Madara revival. In other words Both Clans are at deaths door.

My impression was that Tsunade was the last living decendent of Hashirama, the first Hokage - a bloodline that not only derives from the greatest Senju, but with his Uzumaki wife Mito making it all the more special.

I can't recall reading her name being 'Senju' anywhere - is that confirmed in the manga? or perhaps in the databook?

As for her hair... I imagine Hashirama's kid(s) either had brown or red hair, most likely brown if Tsunade's brother was anything to go by, and that she got the blonde hair from her non-Senju parent.

Anyway - it's my opinion that the Senju name has perhaps 'died out' but the daughters of the clan went on to marry into other clans in Konoha... so the bloodline/genetics are still about on whatever level to some extent.
Tsunade is probably the greatest in terms of power/ability due to the mixed Senju/Uzumaki line she comes from though...

I don't think every Senju was an absolute powerhouse like Hashirama and Tobirama - just like I don't think every Uchiha had the same capability as Itachi and Sasuke.

You won't find a noter Senju in the village,Their role as front line soldiers defending the village in 3 Ninja wars took so many to the grave. When the Alliance first attack the juubi in the manga you saw the different clans as a group attack the Juubi with their main jutsu, you even saw the Clan of the 3rd Hokage attack the Juubi, but You did not see even one single Senju their.
