Kakashi is overall better en gai. The only way gai can beat him is with 8 gates which would end up as a stalemate.

However one's that mofo goes 6/7 gates, kakashi has no defence against gai's speed/physicality

In a base mode fight, Kakashi would win due to his intelligence and his calm and collected nature. In a full power fight, gai woul crush Kakashi before he could react with his incredible speed and power.

Honestly I disagree. Once Gai starts using the 8 gates it is nearly impossible to counter...just look at Kisame. Gai litterally punched through a jutsu...sure Kakashi has Kamui, but I don't think it really compares to the power given by the 8 gates.... So I guess really its more of the 8 gates > Kakashi, but Gai better off because he can use them... While I think Kakashi is a boss I don't see him having a strength that compares to what Gai can bring out.
