So Tobi would open the dimension to shift the arm away from harm . . . . while KaKashi is opening the same dimension to push the arm into it in an agressive destructive way.

That wouldn't accomplish a whole lot. The biggest problem is, and always has been, Tobi's Sharingan. And Tobi did state in the past that Kumai on him directly wouldn't work. He could be lying of course but with it being the same technique. . .who knows.
