Guess before Naruto, it seems that Kishimito is going back to his original intended idea of having Kakashi succeed Tsunade as the Sixth Hokage, something that is completely out of the blue but at the same time would make a lot of sense once put some thought into it plus the fact that the Fire Lords were actually considering it before Danzo thwarted the idea for his own selfish desires.

I always thought that after the war there's got to be someone like a transitional Hokage that has to re-establish the order in Konoha. I thought about this at the time when Tsunade was split in half though (which was ages ago), and I could not think of anyone who fits the bill except Kakashi.

Once order is back in Konoha, there's better connections with other villages , and Naruto is ready, Kakashi could always step down and Naruto could be the seventh.
