So,
Kagami Uchiha was a teammate of Hiruzen Sarutobi and the village elders.
My guess is that during the war Kagami was going out with a girl also from the Uchiha clan. She joined the team after Hiruzen Sarutobi became Hokage. During the war she was killed infront of Kagami, this lead him to complete insanity. After this he fled the village and decided to embark on his idea on the shinobi world. Danzo and Hiruzen both had there ideas on the shinobi world therefore Kagami could have also had one. During his travels he met someone named Zetsu. Zetsu had helped Madara Uchiha in his goals in the past. Zetsu made a proposal to Kagami, he would provide Kagami with a ready made plan, but Kagami would have to one day provide Zetsu with a pair Rinnegan. Kagami did not trust him and said no. Then Zetsu proceeded to threaten Tobi that if he didnt help he would do something (Havent figured out what he threatened him with yet but my guess it was something terrifying). Then Kagami agreed. Zetsu gave Kagami one year to continue his travels and then Zetsu would return. One year passed and Kagami was trained and had unlocked his Mangekyou Sharingan. Zetsu returned and took him to Madaras body. Zetsu then explained what Madara tried to do long ago but failed. Zetsu came to Madara with the same proposal but Madara aslo denied and Zetsu threatened him also. Unfortunatley Madara could not accomplish it in time and died. Madar planned to give his Rinnegan to a child who could then awaken it and then Zetsu could steal the eyes. Then Kagami figured his plan, he would take on the identity of Madara so the five nations would fear him. Kagami then took Madaras eyes and gave them to Nagato as a child. Then Kagami tested how much Konoha had grown since his leave and the kyubi incedent unfolded. Then we are up to where we are know. I think that when Kagami took Nagatos Rinnegan Zetsu figured he was now too powerful to take on. Now, Kagami was so worried about Madaras revival because if Zetsu knew he could possibly take the newly revived Madaras eyes and kill Kagami for his betrayal. It would also explain why he is so bothered about completing the Moons Eye Plan because he knows he is running out of tim until Zetsu gets Madaras eyes. If he manages to complete he will not have to fear Zetsus threats anymore since he will be under Kagamis control.
