Kabuto (兜, 冑) is a type of helmet first used by ancient Japanese warriors, and in later periods, they became an important part of the traditional Japanese armour worn by the samurai class and their retainers in feudal Japan.

As you know Kabuto was an orphan, and that lady that took care of him gave him name Kabuto because he wore that kind of helmet.

Shoot, it's also a metaphor for who he is as a person, and why the izanami would work on him. Many Kabutos to have masks that hid the face of the wearer, and were ornate. These gave the samurai in them the appearance of a demon unlike who they really were (Just like Kabuto took in Orochimaru + cells from other experiments to hide who he was). When the helmet is removed the most vital thing on the samurai was revealed, but he would be seen as a person, and not a demon. So, Itachi removed the metaphorical Kabuto from Kabuto and let him finally see himself in the mirror as no one but himself, instead of a god who had it all. At least, that's what I think. #DrPhilrantover
