Leaving Kakashi all alone would be really mean. Either Gai or Obito should survive or Kakashi should just die too.
Kakashi already said in part 1 that everyone he loved died, now also taking away his only friend would be pretty sadistic xD

I think him meeting his brother would be enough closure for his character, and the idea of Kabuto sacrificing himself in some way has so much potential for a very emotional moment.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from, but that sort of dark plot twist with such a permanent ending for such an important character is not Kishi's style. Especially for someone who just found themselves. Who is redeeming themselves.

See above. For a character who is redeeming themselves and has a shot at a new life, to simply shoot that down for no reason, isn't Kishi's style. It would be darkness, to a brief glimmer of light, then totally consumed by darkness again. Not what Kishi does, especially so late in the manga.
However, that was a solid point about Konan. While I am personally certain that Kabuto won't die, I do not shut off the possibility entirely.

Umm Jiraiya? It was finally gonna be his redeeming moment, remember he believed all his life was a failure, but defeating Pein would make up for it? It also seemed like Tsunade might also be finally interested in him. What happened? He died. And he was important. Kishi has even had Kakashi, Naruto and Sasuke at death's door, with Kakashi actually dying. The only thing that saved them was main character plot relevance, something Kabuto doesn't have.

Though your argument is sound, I think you should consider the possibility instead of completely blocking it out.

I also believe he will survive and meet with his brother, but I don't think he'll actually go back to the orphanage. If they allow Obito and Kabuto to return to Konoha because Naruto and/or Sasuke says so, that's just ridiculous.

@HS: I see where you're coming from but as Sid pointed out above, Jiraiya fell victim to this. Obito is also gonna fall victim to this permanent ending and Obito will too. It's also partly cause I strongly Obito will die in the end, the same will happen to Kabuto as Kishi has definitely established a parallel between the two in the last chapter.

Even if Obito and Kabuto survive.. they will be trialed as criminals first.
