In the latest chapter of naruto it showed orochimaru was the first person to meet Kabuto. Even though kabuto is from the leaf and he was a confirmed spy. I thought he worked for Sasori before he started working for orochimaru.

Who is to say that Orochimaru did send Kabuto to spy on Sasori after Orochimaru left Akauski and that Orochimaru knowing about Sasori mind control prepared Kabuto on how to fool Sasori into thinking Kabuto was under His control to begin with.

because kabuto said himself that after he joined up with orochimaru he removed the puppet jutsu from his mind. After watching shippuden episode 39 I realized it had been 5 years since sasori put the jutsu on him but due to how old he is in this episode and how young he is in the manga its confusing! I think kishi messed up

Well as you saw, it explained there, the story that Kabuto was supposed to tell everyone. Orochimaru said to him that from then on he will be the child of a medical ninja, that found him, bla bla..
