What if... At this moment (pictured above) he is about to use his summons, since he was infact a Sage. It is possible that he could have summoned The Elder Toad Sage and the respective Slug and Snake sages into the fight to help him out some how. My guess is since the Rikodou was the progenitor to the Senju /Uzumaki, Uchiha, as well as the father of ninjutsu; he could use Mokuton and some bad ass Pre-Uzumaki fujin jutsu. Assuming all the previous assumptions are true. The Sage could've simply used his summons to gather the necessary sage chakra and summoned a wood dragon much like Hashirama's, to detain the Juubi while he deployed his fuijin jutsu. It seem's the best way of controlling Bijuus is through the use of Mokuton which would explain why Hashirama was able to control & seal multiple tailed beasts.

The guy who posted that picture a few posts above didn't even read the manga at all, it's already been stated by Hagamoro himself that it was indeed him and his brother Hamura who both defeated the Juubi and split it into two probably because of it's massive power.
