I mean, it's a tree, so giving it a gender is weird, but then again it's also a magical tree/some kind of creature (Juubi). Probably a translation flub BUT if it later is confirmed that the tree/Juubi is female it wouldn't be surprising, what with the idea of "mother nature" and the tree "giving birth" to chakra in a sense.
