Why is it the number one sales in japan? Why is it even one of the big three?!!

The art is horrible , idk how people can take it seriously , most of the times Luffy opens his mouth 64388338 meters .

The villains look awful no one compares to Madara in development and character design . Really horrible story . "I want to be the pirate King" blah blah blah oh and Luffy is horrible a typical shonen main character , With awful powerup design (gear fourth) compared to Naruto's RSM design .

Please mods don't delete this thread I wanna know why people like one piece

It seems your major issue is the artwork. But get past that and the story and character personalities are actually some of the more original personas not usually typical with classic Shonen works.

Yeah the I wanna be Pirate King thing is kinds cheesy. Would be way better if his dream was to become hokage.

Also the art is a choice. If you think the art is bad, that is your opinion, but the style that Oda uses is because he likes to draw it that way and not because he is bad at it. If he draws Luffy with a big mouth it is on purpose. It's different from most manga out there, maybe another reason why it stands out. Also why do you want cartoon characters to look more realistic ? That's not what it's made for. Why does Naruto have unrealistic hair and big manga like eyes ? because that is the style people expect in a manga.

Also there is way more detail in every panel in One Piece than 90% of the other manga out there. Just look at the amount of white in panels in Naruto and Bleach and compare it to One Piece.

Final thing and most important, the story line and world building and character development trumps every other manga out there. And that is why it is number 1.

Naruto's storyline, as One Piece's, is just fine. It's the animation that is crappy. Especially the lack of full-motion animation and the over abundant fanservice. Especially in Naruto. One Piece's anime cutscenes are usually tearjerkingly milked out. One important difference between one piece and naruto is that Naruto is rushed whereas One Piece is milked out.

At bold: Are you sure about that? Lets mention the character building of for example; Vinland Saga. Or the detailed artwork of lets say; Berserk. One Piece is great but has some flaws that the beforementioned manga do not have.

Naruto's storyline was crap at the first chapters and then started to become better at the chunin exams till part 2 then it was all crap again with only a few good parts such as hidan and kakuzu saga, pain saga etc

Long time no see.

Yeah of course it's a matter of opinion. I probably read 0.1% of all the available manga out there so it's a bit of a bold claim.

Maybe I should've specified it a bit and said mainstream manga or Shounen Jump titles.

The ones you named are good and then you also have Hunter X Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist and Kingdom.

So it strongly depends on taste, but I think if you let every manga fan make a top 10 list that One Piece will almost always makes it on there.

The kakuzu and hidan / naruto rasenshuriken saga was good because it had many scenes that were full-motion animated. That's why you liked it. As for the storyline of the saga, it's just a part of the whole. The whole of the storyline is topnotch, but missed plenty of factors I have to say. The biggest one being the neglecting of the theme 'ninja' as it evolved into frickin' dbz..

Kingdom is definitely somewhere in the top 10. As for me; One Piece is also at the top because the storyline, as much as it has been milked out and stretched over a timespan of almost 20 years, when you really get into the actual plot you notice its implications and depth. One Piece would have been absolutely insane if it was Seinen instead of Shonen.

(good to see you though. You pop up once or twice a year as far as I know)

Saying trump is too much. One Piece doesn't surpass Toriko's world building. Neither does it surpass to HxH's narrative atm. Character development? Some characters have great development but I would say the series has more characterization than development with it's characters.

I made a thread like this in 2013, fast forward 2016 I am bashing Naruto for having the worst animation fights in the world meanwhile One Piece action is just f*cking insane. Madara and Pein were the only scary villains in Naruto
