Bet you didn’t know that McDonald’s did a parody of Black fraternities in a commercial in the late 80s…

Black fraternities and sororities were so popular on television in the late 80s and early 90s and everybody was trying to get a piece of their marketing power…even McDonalds.

Check out this video we found from 1989 where a dean tells his pledgees to spit the “McDonald’s Chant.” The pledgees then recite the McDonald’s menu as if they were listing off their founders.

Do you remember seeing this commercial?

Its basically black appropriation, they used things of culture significance in the black community to outsource their product to the "urban consumer".

No, that's called basic marketing. They saw what people were interested in, and decided to try to make a profit of it. You're acting as if what they did was only done to the black community, or even minorities in general, when it's not.

did I say they only did this in the black community? And another thing, Mcdonalds AD campaigns are notorious for being insensitive and inconsiderate. In the '70s they had Ad's that alluded to the fact that Mcdonalds was a place where black family should come and eat because NO tipping was necessary.

Like I said Black appropriation.

EDIT: I found the ad

Even the Jargon/lingo. "Dinniertimin" "check out mcdonalds" "Get Down"

But I digress people will only see what they want to see. White washed.

No, my point was there was no need to get upset just because they tried to relate to other communities to make money. If all communities are being 'appropriated', it isn't appropriation.

Please tell me, in other words why you should be offended by the ad in OP, other than simply saying "culture appropriation". It's a fact there is an audience that enjoyed the stuff at the time. You're essentially saying the black community is off limits in terms of marketing. Why should that be the case?

For the second ad, I agree that is racist only because it suggested blacks couldn't be of high class.

That's how you advertise, find common ground with the intended demographic. Is it racist when a clothing commercial shows white people golfing? Is Stomp the Yard racist for creating a film marketed to black people for using something they'd relate to more than other races?

Never forget, only by knowing our past can we understand our present and prepare for our future.

stomp the yard though commercial, gave us a insight into the culture. This Mcdonalds ad simply is idiotic and making light of tradition which represents discipline and unity among educated black youth. Instead of naming historical founding figures within their organization, it was replaced with Mcdonalds menu as if its equal.

That may be though its also said dont let the past control your actions or the past wil ruin your future
