Uhh...pretty sure she died or was dying anyway. She was old af when she told Kushina she's going to pass the Kyubi to her she was probably at the end of her natural lifespan so they needed a new host.

They still die, just not immediately. It's an absolute rule that a jin dies if they get the biju extracted, Hagaromo and Uzumaki jins just have stronger life forces, so they don't die right away.
