Hey NB, today I got some horrible news. My best friend's dad died at age 47. Most of you are thinking "why would you care" well my mom died when I was young and my dad is an alcoholic. This man was like a second father to me. Before this happened, I took everyone and everything for granted, including him. Now I don't want to tell a pity story, but I want everyone to appreciate for a moment every person that has impacted their life, and write a quick comment about that person, dead or alive. Sorry if this sounds a bit cliche, but death is an awful awful thing.

I'm sorry to hear that. Sadly I too was one who grew up with no father. I know how you feel. My condolences for you and your friend. I won't say that I know how you feel. Because I too had a father figure die, I know the pain but everyone's pain is different. Either way if I were at his funeral even though I don't know him in any way, I'd say let us carry on his morals of good and create a better life for ourselves and others. I hope you two can cope well with this. Feel free to pm me if you feel the need to talk. I'm sorry.

My best friend's dad died when I was in seventh grade. He was like a second father to me as well. Sorry for your loss, friend.

I'm sorry. That's really rough, man. For your friend, as well. I'm only 23 years old. Mom died when I was 16. My dad was never really in my life, but he died 6 months ago. I hadn't spoken to the man since my mom's funeral. He was a very abusive drunk. I got the shit kicked out of me every single day of my life until I was 13. On time, the **** head broke my arm for forgetting to return a DVD to the neighbor I borrowed it from.

Point is, it was still difficult to actually lose the man. My mother, however, was an absolute saint. I'm the youngest of 8 kids. Even my twin sister is a minute and a half older than me. I was always a huge momma's boy, and losing her was devastating. I barely survived it. Shit, I'm not even sure if "survived" is even the right word... It's very difficult to go through. For you, and your friend. You both have my condolences.
