Just how special is Kakashi?

We all know that Kakashi is important and relevant, but I'm starting to think that he's even more important than Sasuke. Kakashi is just all over the plot.
-Naruto's sensei
-Sasuke's old sensei
-Minato's former student
-Obito's former teammate
-Currently fighting Obito, the main antagonist.
-Part of the reason Obito entered the dark side.
-Taught Sasuke lightning release, which he uses a lot.
-Almost defeated Deva Path, literally just inches from hitting him/it with raikiri.
-Was moments away from becoming the next Hokage.

Well, he is pretty important... And since Kishi said this is Kakashi's year, he seems to put him right in the spotlight.
And he's going to be there right until the end because he was the sensei of the 2 main important characters in this series: Naruto and Sasuke.

I would be dissapointed if he wasn't that important.
Sasuke's reaction to his sharingan when he revealed it for the first time (Sasuke first suspected him to be the third sharingan-user aka Obito) was reason enough for me to believe he's one of the most important characters in the story.

Look at orochimaru, look at Nagato, look at Obito, look at sasuke. Their is to much pain in the shinobi world for everyone to stay on the right path.

Indeed, he is very important.
I dont really think he should die at all in the manga.
He has some form of communication with almost every single main character in the manga and is some way been special to each of them.
I just think it would be cool if at the end of the manga he is a sort of war hero and he reflects on everything that has happened (if the good succeeds) in the past years.

I really think he's the best teacher in all of Narutoverse.

He worked wonders with Naruto and Sasuke in a matter of weeks.
