I don't necessarily think it's odd. I think people like to have an outside source who can see things from an unbiased perspective. I think so many people have done so because a few people did it, they got reasonable answers, and it created a sort of precedent for others to do the same.

In high school I was generally well liked or at least respected by most. I was the class president for the last two years if that means anything.
