This is probably stupid and all but I'm not sure if someone already thought of this but since Madara gave Nagato his Rinnegan therefor giving Nagato Uchiha DNA as well as his own Senju DNA would it have been possible for his Rinnegan to digress to the Sharingan? And Why would it have been stuck at Rinnegan and even if not he had both DNA couldn't he have had Izanagi? Just thinking about it how would have Naruto's fight against him have changed if Nagato could have used Madara's eye with perfection. (As in switching back and forth between both eye transformations and I know that would have been far fetched and overpowered but again just a random thought)

For the same reason Kakashi can't deactivate his Sharingan, just the eye isn't enough Uchiha DNA.
