hm.. You can't really overrate a guy who you haven't seen fighting... and who had many forbidden jutsus under him X_X.

Can't say until Hashirama's full powers are revealed. All i know is hes suppose to be the "So6p" of the "modern ninja world".. And Naruto is suppose to be the "So6p" for the future ninja world.

just speculation but i think one of the reasons hashi can control the bijuu
is that he had the seal that the sage made to protect the world from the juubi and quietly being passed down
it could have been passed down to him considering he is senju;uchiha's got the tablet and senju's got the seal(eye and body)
and if he had this seal he might be able to defeat it
