Jiraya's scroll

Jiraya always had a scroll behind his back.
What did it contain??

In his fight with pain he had it all along but from a certain point his scroll disappeared. That scroll disappeared from the movement he took one of the pain inside the toads belly after he got his arm cut.
It is true in manga as well as anime.

I am still confused about what it contained and why did it disappear.
