Why would he need sensing?

All Jiraiya has to do is jump on Bunta and roast everything. Nidaime has nothing that can block it and nothing to avoid it.

And normal sensing doesn't work on the clam as far as I know.

Jiraiya's only concern is jokey boy. All he needs to do is enter SM and it's game over. Ma's Tongue sensing is enough to find the clam and Trollkage, along with jiraiya's own SM.

the clam probably hides the chakra signature of himself and mizukage by emitting the mist hence sensors cant detect but the barrier finds out the physical presence of the targets
