Yes, but I was referring to actual debates in the VC, not as an actual canon fact in the manga. There are things that are widely accepted even though it's not "Kishimoto confirmed," and this should be one of them.​

But you brought up the possibility of an official debate to put an end to this match up as if it could, literally, 100% prove that, Itachi > Jiraiya.
That's what i opposed to in first place and the only thing i can't agree with, because in the end it wouldn't change a thing. You could post a link to that official thread in any other thread similar to this one, that it wouldn't invalidate whoever claimed otherwise nor would it end a discussion that has been going for years.

Don't think i'm discussing this because i'm fanboying Jiraiya though, careful. What i'm typing here goes both ways. Its the same as if someone claimed Jiraiya > Itachi.
Anyway, isn't it widely accepted that Itachi > Jiraiya? I'm sure there're other match ups much more infamous than this one, but there's always going to be opposition regardeless.

If Madara, stated that his battle between the 5 Kage was child's play at best when compared to Hashirama, then how would Hiruzen not be able to replicate the feat if he was said to be even stronger than Hashirama himself? It makes no sense.

Itachi's claim was already disproven. Jiraiya was Konoha's top shinobi at the time and Itachi was allied with Konoha the entire time. Had he not made an excuse to retreat, Kisame would of demanded to confront Jiraiya head-on, and if they did Itachi would have to help him in order to not make his spying on the Akatsuki more suspicious than it already was. Even though Itachi lied to make sure he wouldn't have to kill anyone, Kisame STILL questioned why he had to retreat, implying that he didn't believe what Itachi said was true [

]. He lied to him about this, so why can't he lie to him about something else? Kisame even stated that, yes, while he himself couldn't of beaten Jiraiya, Itachi could. Itachi made sure he didn't believe so by saying what he said, but in that same sentence he said, while knowing exactly who and what Nagato was, that the situation would of remained the same regardless of who showed up as backup. Do you believe Itachi and Nagato would together stalemate with Jiraiya? Because accepting that statement is accepting that as well.​

What I was trying to say as shown above was that I wanted, at least in the Versus Colosseum, for the Itachi and Jiraiya debate to be settled once and for all. Though, yes, I get where you're coming from. You prove some valid points.​

For the most part, yes, actually. It just irritates me when people make ludicrous claims like "Jiraiya blocks Amaterasu with his hair," or, "Jiraiya outruns it because he's as fast as V2 Ay." I apologize for coming across hostile.​

Jiraiya fought Pain who was the strongest member of the Akatsuki. Obito himself called Pain 'invincible' While praising Jiraiya. However Jiraiya could have beaten Pain as stated by Pain himself.
Jiraiya in base however has nothing that can take Itachi out before Itachi uses Susano which means Yatta Mirror. Sm Jman is a different story altogether.
