Jiriaya could beat either of them individually IMO, but if it were the both of them he would probably lose.

I said he COULD beat, I didn't say he would beat him. Don't underestimate Jiriaya. Itach said it himself that if they fought they would both die(there is no proof in the manga to disprove this). Itachi couldn't win with genjutsu because Jiriaya would have Ma and Pa attached to his shoulder in in full power sage mode and they could break him out of it if he got caught in it. Then it would just be a battle of power and skill and it could go either way honestly.

Itachi can beat Jiraiya alone quite easily. Kisame could beat Jiraiya if he wanted to. Him and Kisame are overkill for Jiraiya. They take it neg-diff. U_U (But that's not to say that Jiraiya isn't a strong guy, he is. Just not well-matched against either of these two.)

Jiyaiya could take them 1 at a time, but 2 on 1 is not in his favor. He does stand a chance at beating itachi, and he can beat Kisame.

Disproof:
1. In pt2 it is revealed that Itachi only wanted to make his presence known in Konoha so that Danzo would hear about him and remember not to hurt Sasuke. Itachi used Naruto as an excuse so Kisame would suspect nothing. Itachi wanted to get in and out of Konoha, he wasn't there to fight and said throughout the trip that fighting was pointless.

2. We've seen Itachi's abilities. They overpower Jiraiya's and I could post why, but I won't. That would take up too much space and I doubt many would read it.

3. In the 3rd databook, it compares all characters in their base strength. Itachi has a higher score than Jiraiya in everything (speed, intelligence, hand seals, taijutsu, genjutsu, ninjutsu, etc) bar strength and stamina. Itachi's stamina has nearly never been a factor in any of his fights, considering that he doesn't like to fight in the first place and prefers to end it as quickly as possible.

4. As they were retreating, Kisame asked Itachi "But why is this a retreat for you? Kisame only didn't want to fight Jiraiya because they had heard of his reputation as a sannin, that's all. Kisame knows Itachi's abilities and therefore said that statement, he believed that Itachi could take down Jiraiya.

5. Itachi's reply to Kisame's question was "No, even if we both go against him, even with backup, we will still lose". That makes absolutely no sense. Jiraiya isn't taking down two Akatsuki members at once. And he certainly isn't taking down 3 or more. Itachi+Kisame+(Konan, Nagato, Deidara, Obito, Zetsu, Kakazu, Hidan, Sasori) would not lose to Jiraiya.

this isn't the right translation I believe but I know it was said in the anime, but it shows that they didn't want to fight him

3rd data book? If kishi isn't behind it then I don't believe it. I think you highly underestimate Jiriaya's abilities. Pain said Jiriaya could have beaten him if he knew his secret to begin with(I'm not sure if he could have defeated Tendo pain though) and pain is stronger than Itachi. Plus Itachi wore his eye's out pretty easily and I believe Jiriaya has a lot more endurance than Itachi, so he could out last him in a fight. It's very plausible for Jiriaya to defeat Itachi. I think he could, but then again Itachi could win. Saying Itachi flat out wins is kinda of ignorant if you ask me.

By manga portrayal it's a draw. By feats Itachi and Kisame would win
