Jiraiya one shotted both Konan and Kisame. You know, the same Konan who was able to give Tobi trouble. And remember, Kisame was a Jinchuriki hunter. He also defeated three Paths of Pein without getting any injuries or coming close to running low on chakra.

We were even told the guy could defeat Pein and Itachi. It was said that people like Kisame were not even capable of making a difference against him, while Konan was sent home after Pein cleaned the oil off of her restoring her.

And some think Itachi is a level above him. Funny

I'm not saying Jiraiya is better than Itachi or vice versa, just that they are on the same level.

A simple Genjutsu will take out Jiraiya, he's nothing. Without SM he's useless, and Itachi has MANY ways to stop him from going into SM.

I agree Jiraiya would have a hard time fighting kisame let stand itachi he would rape Jiraiya. But he held secrets and powers for sasuke to fight him later.

Itachi come out on top, he isn't "on another level" to Jman but when it comes right down to the finish, Jman isnt getting through his Susano'o. Which is okay because unlike Sasuke, Itachi only busts it out when it's absolutely needed. And makes it count when he does.

What I'm saying here, is that either shinobi has the ability and intelligence to put the other one down in the early stages of the fight, but when both are brought to their limit as seen later in the series, Itachi's moves will defeat Jiraiya.

you cant assume that j-man would defeat itachi, if you look at it (without being totally driven by one motive or another: i hope you can leave opinions at the doorstep before reading this!!!!)

Itachi says that he and j-man would end in a stalemate...now at the time Itachi was suffering withdrawal from using tsukuyomi on kakashi and therefore his statement is indicative of his circumstances at the time...also the powerscaling is quite different in part 1 than part 2..is itachi going to whip out all of his awesome abilities in part 1 when he's only just been introduced? no...is the answer your looking for...

Now J-man is epic, at the time of this part of the manga, jiraiya is being extremly hyped up as one of the sannin, his demonstration against itachi is used to examplify this...but in actual circumstances where they would fight itachi has so many abilities that were unbeknownced to us as this stage of the manga...

i agree in what your OP is - J-man is extremely under-rated by a lot of people and he is one of my favouroute char's...
but you have turned away from the focal point of your arguement in that this has now turned into a vs thread between j-man and itachi...

Instead of using one line of text from part 1 manga where itachi is full of decipet, how about you use your own reasoning to deduce how the battle would go.

the time between itachi's closed eye is not enough for someone to make some sort of durastic move - especially not sage mod as that takes time...
as for the genjutsu - song of frogs - itachi can use all of these abilities before this and then we must also question whether or not yara mirror can deflect sound...?

In addition - you act as if konan is so powerful because she gave tobi such a hard time...
keep in mind that konan was by Tobi's side for ages, watching him, testing him and taking note of his abilities...
she had also prepared her paperbombs for the information that she knew...
but the moment tobi brought something new to the table she had no way of countering..IMO the attributes of a really strong ninja - is someone who can adapt to almost any situation immediately and counter accordingly - which she couldn't...so please dont act as if jiraiya countering her is such an amazing feat

J-man - DEFINITLY underrated, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he can beat itachi...even if it says it so early in part 1 where not everything is known about itachi...

TBH a healthy Itachi > a LOT of other powerful ninja...
heck if your gonna use a A>B therefore A>C mentallity - Pain > J-man...and Itachi and Pain are constantly being placed into vs threads with most people saying Itachi>pein or Itachi = Pein...

Idk why ppl can't admit jman is on the same level as itachi. Both have a great defenses that can b summoned in an instant.
Jman the toad guts used to save naruto sakura n himself against konan the butterfly suicide attack.
(I think it was konan)
Jman has a variety of jutsus that give him close, mid, and long range style attacks.
Has summons that have been shown to b very effective.
has sage mode.

N last reason for this is he has a few jutsus that are massive area changing!
Ex toad swamp, bringing down the house!

The other jutsu is the one one Where he traps enemy ninja Inside a frog n traps em there to interrogate them without being able to b detected.

Overall his stealth, interrogation abilities, fighting abilities, and different style of combat puts him on par with most of the top shinobi because he has everything u need to carry out a mission and win with a high success rate.

Idk why ppl are saying itachi v jman since that wasn't the point of this thread only on same level.
Yes I think they are on the same level. That doesn't mean I think jman beats itachi(everytime) but I think they are equal on terms of being a shinobi

Lets not get ahead of ourselves itachi is fairly strong but jiraiya is on a whole other level. Saying jiraiya is not dumb enough to get caught in a genjutsu and if jiraiya goes in SM he could get itachi in one of the frogs genjutsu i know somones going to say hes the master of genjutsu he will know how to get out but this is a foreign type of genjutsu he wont know anything about this genjutsu jaraiya is also fairly as inteligent as itachi if he wasnt he wouldnt have been able to get those paths alone and kill them so anyone who says itachi will kill jiraiya is Ignorant and should GTFO and give itachi a bj
