Jiraiya is known as one of the 3 legendary sannin - taught by the 3rd Hokage the god shinobi along with Orochimaru and Tsunade.
Now i constantly see people arguing on this forum about which sannin they think is the best, but this thread is NOT about which Sannin is BEST themselves, but more that jiraiya himself is the best teacher within the narutoverse.

To clarify - this is a statement saying that Jiraiya is the best teacher - as proof from his various students and his 'moral code' in relevance to other sensei of the series.

Jiraiya is the best teacher within the Narutoverse

First we must look and analyse his students.

Firstly - Jiraiya forms an extremely personal relationship with every single one of his students. Every student he teaches eventually becomes and abnormaly strong member of the narutoverse. As a matter of fact his 3 most important students are the some of the most powerful members of the entire series. His ninja way has been so strong that it has been passed down from one student to another.

Pein (Nagato):
We all know the story of how Jiraiya met Konan, Yahiko and Nagato, it was his decision to stay behind and teach them how to protect themselves that resulted in them becoming such powerful shinobi.
Firstly - It is assumed that all 3 of these people had natural abilties - ie Nagato with his rinnegan - but there is no way that he would have been able to master his abilities without the help of Jiraiya.
The final scene with them together in the anime examplifies the abilities that Jiraiya helped each student to gain - allowing them to further extend into powerful ninja.
He also passed on his 'ninja way' if not a warped version of it - to all 3.
Nagato attempts to gain a world of peace by allowing people to know the same pain that he did and attempts to allow people to better understand eachother.
Jiraiya leaving them does not make him a poor teacher - as he had realised that they were able to fend for themselves - which was his reason for staying with them in the first place. What happened afterwards he attempted to fix making him the best teacher.

Minato:
Minato is such a strong student that he eventually became the 4th hokage. Minato's natural abilities are not to be mistaken as taught directly by Jiraiya - but Jiraiya's personal relationship with his student is what allowed Minato to further extend his reach into the world of Jutsu. Jiraiya became the 'god - father' of Naruto, and Minato died attempting to reinforce Jiraiya's 'ninja way' - dying for the peace of the village - and hopefully the world. It is Jiraiya's Legacy that Minato held with him until his death.

Naruto:
Last but definitely not least - Jiraiya is the ONLY reason that Naruto has been able to make himself such a strong ninja.
Firstly - Teaching Naruto the Rasengan and allowing him to gain extra power on his own - as well as his teaching methods for this technique is what allowed Naruto to become strong so quickly.
Jiraiya formed a personal relationship with Naruto as his godfather - taking care of him and teaching him the true ways of the ninja - and attempting to make Naruto grow up enough to handle the huge burden that was expected of him.
Secondly - Jiraiya's knowledge of Naruto's seal over the 9 tails and control over the 9 tails is what allowed Naruto to eventually harness the power within himself and further his role as a Jinchuuriki. If not for Jiraiya - Naruto would have never learnt to control the 9 tails chakra.
Lastly - it was the inspiration of Jiraiya and his accomplishment of the Sage mode that inspired Naruto to continue and eventually succeed in his sage mode training - furthering Naruto's capabilities.
Ultimately - Naruto also followed Jiraiya's 'ninja way' looking for a world without the endless spiral of revenge, refusing to take revenge on Nagato and inspiring Naruto to reach for a better world.

To compare Jiraiya to a few people -

3rd Hokage:
Now some people might say that as the 3rd taught Jiraiya - it therefore means that he is the best teacher. I strongly disagree with this sentiment, firstly the 3rd Hokage's weakness is what allowed Orochimaru to gain such traction within the series and eventually become such a large villain in both parts 1 and shippuden.
Hiruzen let his prize student go and was unable to challenge him until the very end. Jiraiya never once let Nagato go and attempted to stop him as soon as he found out who he was.
Furthermore - it was the sage training that gave Jiraiya his sennin-mode that caused him to become so powerful - not the 3rds training.

Secondly - i personally believe that Jiraiya's (although not a bad thing in general) - perverted nature originated from the 3rd hokage, this is evident within the flashback that Jiraiya has to Hiruzen during their training. His perverted nature in the future disobeys the basic 3 laws of becoming a shinobi - rejecting woman, gambling and alcohol.

Orochimaru:
Again, this thread is not about who is the most powerful Sannin but who is the best teacher.
Orochimaru tended to take on disciples who were either extremely weak whom he could exploit for his own personal gain - or who had a natural ability or affinity for power that he could again - later take advantage of for his own personal benefit.
He teaches Sasuke some insanely good abilities (sharingan not included) - don't get me wrong - but ultimately for his own gain - not a very good 'teacher' if you ask me. Also by no means does Sasuke surpass Naruto by the time they have both finished their training.
Arguably Orochimaru also taught Kabuto some of his abilities, this is true - and allowed for Kabuto to gain a lot of knowledge - but only after Kabuto took the actual abilities of Orochimaru himself through his own intuition.

Tsunade:
Tsunade is a medical ninja and encouraged/enforced the implementation of medical ninja into independent shinobi units. She then taught various medical ninjutsu to a lot of different people.
She then taught Sakura the key to her strength through chakra manipulation and control - as well as medical ninjutsu/poisons. This is indeed an achievement but not even close to what Jiraiya has achieved within his students.

First & Second Hokage's:
To my knowledge - niether teachers had any major attributes that enforced them as good 'teachers'. They were both extremely powerful Ninja but to my understanding - handed their role of Hokage to Hiruzen at a very young age. and did not take on the role of 'sensei' but rather of 'kage'.

Kakashi:
Kakashi is an extremely good teacher - he followed in the footsteps of Minato using the bell test to analyse strength and comradery. But unfortunately it was his misjudgement of Sasuke and his motives that lead to the current situation within the manga - he is an extremely strong ninja and extremely intelligent but he misjudged the situation totally - much like Hiruzen allowing Orochimaru to leave.
It was also Kakashi's judgement to allocate all of his time with Sasuke that lead to the semi- disbandment of team 7 as each member moved to be taught by seperate sannin.

Minato:
Minato is an extremely strong ninja, he is one of the strongest in the entire series - but he didnt seem to have any standout features as a teacher in comparison to Jiraiya - his sensei.
Teaching Kakashi about his chidori etc was helpful but ultimately his entire team ended up dying in missions - except for kakashi. (obito etc. died)
He was a great leader - perhaps not the best sensei.

Hope you enjoyed reading (if you did) and i hope you agree :)

:):D :pwease:

completly disagree jiraiya is a terrible teacher even after timeskip naruto didn´t learn anything useful, j-man was copying rasengan from his student minato instead of helping him creating a new jutsu and nagato was just a prodigy with rinnegan everbody could teach him the basics.Jiraiya may be a good sensei for moral stuff or ideology but battlewise is an aweful teacher i would even go as far as one of the worst

About the 3rd Hokage ... I disagree.

A teacher that doesnt want to kill his student is in my eyes a good teacher. Even if the student is evil.

your not serious...yes he used his students technique - but that flexibility and willingness to change and adapt with his student and the fact that he could hold that relationship with Minato means he is an awesome teacher.

As for Naruto - i dont know whether you realise this, but ALL of Naruto's growth has come from Jiraiya's encouragement and nurturing of skills, personality and jutsu.

As for Nagato - yes he was a prodigy - BUT he would NEVER have been able to learn how to master the rinnegan without the help of Jiraiya - he would have died off early and never have known anything about ninjutsu or anything at all, Jiraiya saved them and introduced them to the harsh realities of their world.

and thankyou - he helped with every little bit of sentimentality of the narutoverse - and is the instagator of what will eventually become the key to peace of the series...through Naruto!

About the 3rd Hokage ... I disagree.

A teacher that doesnt want to kill his student is in my eyes a good teacher. Even if the student is evil.

Well isnt that sort of null and void since he attempted to kill Oro later on...
if he had done it earlier (like he regrets he didnt in the first place) then he wouldn't have left a gap for Sasuke to leave or anything...

Really its plotnojutsu that he left it till late - but the fact that he saw the evil right in front of his face - and that Oro even ADMITTED to doing such evil things - and still let him go - means he couldnt handle the responsibility of being Orochimaru's Sensei and the monster Oro had become.

Nah I don't think he's that great of a teacher,
Nagato became great because of his Rinnegan, Jiraiya taught him the Basics
Minato developed the ftg himself which made him famous, just as he developed the Rasengan
All Jiraiya taught naruto the Rasengan and the sealing of the toads, with the sealing he was able to learn sage mode, but Jiraiya didn't teach him it, and with rasengan he managed to develop the Rasenshuriken, but after Jiraiya taught him the rasengan he didn't really teach him anything else at all.

Naruto wouldnt have been able to learn Rasenshuriken if he didnt know the basics, the expansion came from Kakashi - who was taught by minato - who was taught by Jiraiya.

Just because Minato or Naruto became great Ninja anyway doesn't take away from Jiraiya's input into their growth, if anything the fact that they learnt how to make their own jutsu only further reinforces that he was a good teacher.

As for Nagato - The insight that Jiraiya had and the faith that he had that Nagato would soon be able to have strong and powerful abilities + the way he handled the shock of the ability of the rinnegan proves that Jiraiya could easily adapt to the situation at hand and acheive his goal of making them strong ninja.

Also i already explained the Minato thing :p

Minato is such a strong student that he eventually became the 4th hokage. Minato's natural abilities are not to be mistaken as taught directly by Jiraiya - but Jiraiya's personal relationship with his student is what allowed Minato to further extend his reach into the world of Jutsu.

Jiraiya really didn't teach Naruto anything during the timeskip jutsu or power-wise. He didn't even want to train Naruto and barely taught him how to walk on water because he was too busy doing his own thing (perving on young women)

I love Jiraiya, don't get me wrong but Orochimaru at least...taught something.

I'm straight up putting Guy up there for best sensei. Not even kidding.

He taught Naruto the Rassengan that in itself is testament to how good of a teacher he was

yeah but that was just the fun of his character - Naruto still learnt everything he needed to know from J-man

Lol gai was someone i forgot to include - but mainly because he picked favourites with Lee leaving tenten and Neji to pretty much sort their own training out (neji with hinata and main family) and tenten...........doesnt...train?

He taught Naruto the Rassengan that in itself is testament to how good of a teacher he was

Thankyou :) i just gave some more examples and compared him :p
