jiraiya and naruro

I was reading the manga and saw that minato told jiraiya that he was naming his child naruto so I was wondering why jiraiya didn't train naruto right away in part 1 since he and minato were close just wondering

To not make people know that naruto wasn't minato's son I guess. If j-man would train him right away instead of like kakashi then people would know something would be up. Same if he looked after him for a bit. Also he traveled a lot and wasn't ready to train someone. That is why later in part 1 he trained him probably because he felt he owed it to minato due the bond. That's my guess. :s

I meant when jiraiya knocked ebisu on his ass at the hot spring where naruto was trying to walk on water he told jiraiya to train him and later told jiraiya he was naruto he still didn't train him
