Jiraiya abandons Naruto????

I just realized. If Minato and Kushina named Jiraiya to be Naruo's godfather, then how come he didnt take care of Naruto once they both were killed in the Nine Tail incident? Think about it, Jiraiya definitley knew Minato and Kushina were killed. And he most likely knew Naruto survived (because later on when he first meets Naruto in the Chunnin Exams arc. he dosnt seem suprised that hes alive) In a way he does sort of take care of him after he returns to the village but were was he the other 12 years when Naruto was suffering from being alone?

While it is true that Jiraiya was out doing his "research" for the make out tactics books he was also out doing research on the Akutski. Most everything the leaf learned about the Akutski came from Jiraiya so while he may not have raised Naruto he did take care of him in his own way by providing critical knowledge about his enemy.
