Jean has short, light ash-brown hair with his sides and back trimmed shorter and of a darker hue.
He also has small, intense light-brown eyes, and is said to have the same vicious look in them as Eren does. Jean is of average height and build, and has a scowl similar to Eren's but is said to have a long face (a "horseface"). He is often seen wearing an olive grey button-up shirt underneath a light brown jacket along with dark brown knee high boots and white pants adorned with several belts and bands.

Personality
Jean is a very honest man. He holds no restraint when it comes to speaking his mind, even when he knows it would not be wise to do so or when it could spark conflict. Jean is also pragmatic: he has a strong aversion to exposing himself to dangerous situations, and has openly admitted his regret on becoming a ninja due to wanting an easy and safe life.
During his time as an academy student, Jean was extremely hot-headed, easily becoming frustrated and quick to resort to violence when pushed.Jean was also very cynical about the ninja world, believing that humanity will destroy itself with war,politics,etc. He openly mocked more idealistic individuals and saw trying to change the system as a hopeless cause.
Despite his shortcomings,his closest friend Marco describes Jean as a natural leader, being able to understand others and assess situations well because of his flaws.Indeed, during a mission, Jean proves capable of leading his fellow comrades when they are left confused and leaderless.
Although he presents himself as self-centered, Jean places high value on the lives of his comrades, and is ashamed and horrified when he must leave helpless allies behind to save himself and others.He was also willing to risk his life even if just to slow down an enemy while his injured teammates escaped, as refusing to do so would have certainly resulted in their deaths.

Descripton: The user will do one hand seal and cause nearby earth structures (either natural occurring ones on the field (such as cave ceilings, cliffs, etc), man made (buildings, etc) or jutsu made (up to C-Rank active structures)) to collapse and fall. This technique allows the ninja to control nearby stone and rock and dislodge any vulnerable or sensitive spots, causing the structure to collapse. This can be especially useful if in a cave or a stone lodging. The technique can loosen the rocks and cause them to come raining down on whomever is trapped inside. The damage depends on the size of the cavern or rock lodging above or nearby the target and not on the amount of chakra used which doesn't need to be high. A large cave with a thick ceiling can easily do the physical damage equivalent to an A-Rank technique but due to the damage not being focused or chakra fueled, its also easily defendable.

Description: Using this jutsu, a person can hide underground until they're ready to attack an opponent by merging with the ground itself. By utilizing earth-chakra, the person can stealthily emerge from the ground without disrupting the ground around him. The disadvantage with this technique is that merging with the ground is rather slow and while perfomring the technique, the user is vulnerable to high ranked Earth techniques. The user isn't hidden from doujutsu or sensory ninjas and cannot travel beyond the 3 meter deep mark. Moving around in the ground is slow and the user cannot sense very well what is happening above.

Description: The user will first perform the required hand seals Rabbit → Boar → Rat → Horse → Tiger → Snake and slamming the hands on the ground, the user can, by flowing concentrated chakra into the Dragon Veins flowing underground, tear the earth apart, creating large chasms by raising the earth in two oposite sides in the desired location and then splitting that piece of earth through the center. The length, width, direction, and curve of the chasm are all up to the user. Manipulating the Dragon Veins requires fine chakra control, but if one has such skill, they can use this technique to divide the space between the enemy and their own team in two, destroy enemy camps or defences, and even to attack.
Note: This does not split the earth appart directly to cause opponents to fall in the fissure.

It can't fool the Byakugan, but, due to the mist being created with the user's chakra, any Sharingan and Rinnegan-user will see the mist coloured by their opponent's chakra, which will effectively hide the user from the dōjutsu.

Description: The user After performing the required hand seals Ram → Tiger spits out high-viscosity, chakra infused water, aimed at a surface of wide scope. This is a stream of sticky liquid which can be used to form an adhesive trap that can inhibit a person's mobility. One can effectively reduce their enemy's area of activity with this technique, and has the effect of being able to take complete control over the battlefield. The normal scope of this technique is normally just a few metres, but if prepared, it is also possible to make an entire pond of starch syrup. Being caught in the technique can be avoided by channelling chakra to one's feet allowing one to walk upon it uninhibited, beforehand.

Description: This technique is used to trap a victim inside a virtually inescapable sphere of water by waving the Snake → Ram → Horse → Hare → Ram → Horse → Hare → Hands spread in front palms out. The only downside to this technique is that the user must keep at least one arm inside the sphere at all times in order for the victim to remain imprisoned. This technique requires a sufficient amount of water, which can be provided by expelling it from one's mouth. Once trapped the target is unable to move while within it due to the heaviness of the water. Because of the density of the water it can be used, to a limited extent, for defensive purposes if performed on oneself. This technique allows the ninja to control nearby stone and rock and dislodge any vulnerable or sensitive spots, causing the structure to collapse. This can be especially useful if in a cave or a stone lodging. The technique can loosen the rocks and cause them to come raining down on whomever is trapped inside. The damage depends on the size of the cavern or rock lodging above or nearby the target and not on the amount of chakra used which doesn't need to be high. Description: This displacement technique creates a thick mist to spring forth by lifting up some water from either a pre-existing source or expelled from their mouth, then goes in and out of sight at will from within the pearly-white realm. The mist's thickness is controlled by the amount of chakra kneaded into it. It can't fool the Byakugan, but, due to the mist being created with the user's chakra, any Sharingan and Rinnegan-user will see the mist coloured by their opponent's chakra, which will effectively hide the user from the dōjutsu.

This is a stream of sticky liquid which can be used to form an adhesive trap that can inhibit a person's mobility. One can effectively reduce their enemy's area of activity with this technique, and has the effect of being able to take complete control over the battlefield. The normal scope of this technique is normally just a few metres, but if prepared, it is also possible to make an entire pond of starch syrup. Being caught in the technique can be avoided by channelling chakra to one's feet allowing one to walk upon it uninhibited, beforehand.

Description: This technique is used to trap a victim inside a virtually inescapable sphere of water by waving the Snake → Ram → Horse → Hare → Ram → Horse → Hare → Hands spread in front palms out. The only downside to this technique is that the user must keep at least one arm inside the sphere at all times in order for the victim to remain imprisoned. This technique requires a sufficient amount of water, which can be provided by expelling it from one's mouth. Once trapped the target is unable to move while within it due to the heaviness of the water. Because of the density of the water it can be used, to a limited extent, for defensive purposes if performed on oneself. Water clones can be used in preparation for the technique, which block an opponent's attack and trap the attacker in the prison using the clone's own water.

Description: This technique is performed by performing the Snake → Ram → Monkey → Boar → Horse → Tiger hand seals and gathering oil in one's mouth, which is created by their chakra. As the oil is exhaled, its ignited, creating a large bullet of burning oil. One can also shoot multiple smaller bullets which can be shot in a widespread. The advantage of this technique is that due to the oil present in it, it will explode if it comes in contact with water. Not only that but due to the oil, the burning effect is more lasting (spreading across surfaces or enemies where it might hit) as the oil burns for a longer period of time, even without the users chakra.

Jean was born into the Nara clan and lived a relatively normal childhood. He had a long lived friendship with a boy named Marco Bodt whom he met and bonded with during his time as an academy student.On the day of his enlistment, Jean admitted his dislike for ninjas and how he thinks they are all suicidal fools. Jean received a headbutt from one of the proctors for his troubles. That day, Jean would encounter his exact opposite in Eren Jeager for the first time. The two immediately took a disliking towards each other and their respective ideals. Jean went on to perform well as an academy student despite his cynical outlook on life at the time in an attempt to outdo Eren and ended up ranking in the top ten of his class. Having graduated from the academy he was put into a team with Marco and another female student. After a going through and passing the chunin exams Jean and the rest of his class were put on the front lines to defend an invasion on Konoha by a rival nation. In the aftermath of said battle Jean finds the body of his friend, Marco, in which Jean is clearly disturbed by the sight. This event causes a change in Jean's attitude. He abandons his selfish ways and grows into a capable young leader who learns to trust his comrades.
