J-Man Itachi's equal?

I know Itachi said that Jiraya boy was his equal, (I'm not fanboying with Itachi, as seen from my avatar I'm not the biggest fan of the uchiha) but how could have Jiraya fought against Itachi's susanoo? Unless Jiraya boy has something to pierce his susanoo, I just don't get it.

I think that he said that because of a minor plot inconsistency. As Susanoo most likely designed in P1, that probably wasn't taken into account when Itachi said Jiraiya was his equal.
Without susanoo, I can see them being equal. Near invulnerability along with extremely powerful offense is too much

Or any other genjutsu really. Itachi's skills make it so Jiraiya wouldn't even be aware that he was under it. Jiraiya has already admitted to being no good at genjutsu anyway.

Susanoo can be dealt with by swamp of the underworld, one of J-Mans first shown attack that immobilized Orochimarus giant snake summon and that was when J-Mans chakra flow was screwed up, so at full strength, he easily sinks itachi and his susanoo. Tsukuyomi would screw J-Man if used to one shot, but if he can go SM and speed blitz, Itachi gets wrecked.

My theory is that Itachi knew all of this and used his brain to run away in part one, making him a true genius.

J-man can't live with Itachi, he needs sage mode to compete with him and it takes time for J-man to activate it. Itachi either fries him with amaterasu or puts him in a genjutsu before J-man can blink/summon toads. Even if Ma and Pa did get summoned, Itachi would solo them with his expert kunai techs before they could sing.

There is 0 evidence that jiraiya in sm would blitz itachi
