Izangai and Izamai

Does anyone know how these 2 are actually used as a pair. I didn't really understand what itachi meant when he explain it to sasuke.

Hmm, I guess he meant it in a metaphorical way; The jutsu are extremely alike and therefore they form a pair, like yin and yang for example.

people get arrogant after using izanagi so izanami was to trap them into a genjutsu to make them find themselves again
it's a forbidden jutsu because in combat it wouldn't kill the enemy
