[Spoilers] Izanami was not meant to be used!

Hi Everyone,

First post but been reading peoples comments for a long time and finally felt the need to voice my opinion (I have Many , but I’ll keep them few and far between).

Ive recently noticed alot of people arguing about Izanami and its application; some people have even said things along the lines of:

"Izanami is stupid, an Uchiha uses Izanagi and loses an eye then someone punishes him with Izanami and also uses an eye"

To which someone mentioned that Uchiha are retards.

You guys who think this seem to be completely missing the point, one that Itachi made very clear in the last chapter! Izanami is not meant for use (literally) it’s a deterrent like nuclear weapons, the issue was Uchiha who learnt how to use Izanagi would use the threat of it on the battlefield to subdue their enemies; in doing so became arrogant believing that even if they were attacked they could just undo it at the worst case scenario ensuring victory. However once you had more than one Uchiha with this ability on the battlefield they would literally fight over who got to use Izanagi ending in senseless death of Uchiha clan members. As such the Uchiha clan came up with Izanami as a threat to the Uchiha clan members to not rely on the fate changing powers of Izanagi (and probably work harder on increasing their true abilities). The Clan lived together, if you became arrogant it wouldn’t be in battle that you were punished with Izanami! You’d be sat down and forced to endure it to see the error of your ways as an honourable punishment, that or probably killed as a traitor to the clan.

What I don't get is why they argued to use izanagi, did they wont to lose their eye or something? If they actually argued about who's eye lost would be better then wow, the uchiha were arrogant. Unless they were saying "comrade, don't give up your eye I will if it was an argument like that I would understand."

Lol yeah arrogance was the issue they were trying to correct. When you think your a god or have a god given gift you tend to become arrogant (like nagato did). Izanagi is very powerful so it would be easier to just use it rather than earn a victory if things got hard, just look at Danzo he spammed it.

And yes i feel for Sasuke and like him as a char =P but i'll be the first to say it so others dont have to XD he would DEFINATELY spam it if he got the chance, Sasuke really could do with Izanami being used on him as he is the most arrogant Uchiha around at the moment.

I would have to defend sasuke here he is not arrogant he doesn't care about power all he cares about is revenge and he doesn't care how he obtains that revenge. When zetsu told him naruto is probably stronger then you now he said I don't care about that stuff. Madara is the real arrogant some thinking everyone else is scum.

It was a deterrent, a form of control. It wasnt meant to be used but if it had to be used then it would be done for the good of the clan. Remember Uchiha use to be a very close community (even before Khonoha) and like a chain your only as strong as your weakest link. Izanagi could have destroyed the Uchiha, they would have won the battles but at the cost of weakening themselves enough to be destroyed.
Who in their right mind would allow themselves and their children to have a mark placed on their forehead that could be used to destroy them? but the Hyuga did it! lol its a honour system that cant be applied to western ideals, these are Ninja's written/drawn into existence by a Japanese citizen, try to keep the history of their nation in mind. If they dishonoured themselves in battle they use to stab themselves before being beheaded, its all relevant.

I like this analogy of neculear weapons. This was precisely why iznami was developed to force the optger to not use izanagi.


I believe I may be that someone that called the uchiha retards because despite their noble cause to counter those among there clan that abused izanagi by devising izanami they still used it anyway.

I still think the uchiha are retards and their arrogance to think they can the balance of nature and get away with it is annoying.

Unlike lthe senju that edo tensei where it also is a retarded tech but the invernter of the tech 2nd hokage stopped using the tech and stopped using iut and didnt prefect it. Kabuto and orocihmaru did.

In the end SO6P messed up, the ninja way didnt bring the peace he supposedly sought. If you give people the ability to do anything they will so in the end all shinobi are arrogant lol
But yes the Uchiha were an arrogant clan and easily put out when they dont get their way. The first Uchiha was mad because his dad favoured the younger brother (Senju) and Madara equally when he didnt get the title of Hokage. I guess from their standpoint they never get their way even though they have the best of intentions. Even the mooneye plan is little more than an unpleasent way of bringing peace to the world.

You know the Uchiha could also take eyes from fallen Uchiha. Being able to swap a dead eye out for a fresh one later on would make the tech much more appealing right? Taking eyes by force is also an option. It has been shown throughout the series that swapping eyes out isn't a very big deal in the shinobi world. It would even seem plausible to me that the Uchiha would stockpile these eyes, perhaps privately or for general clan use. The Sharingan is what makes the Uchiha clan what they are, so it makes sense to me that they would not waste the Sharingan of the dead. Further support to this is to keep the sharingan from falling into the hands of the enemy.

Some examples of eye swapping: Sasuke, Madara, Danzo, Kakashi, Nagato, Ao.
Chapter 386 is proof of the Uchiha stealing each others eyes throughout the history of the clan.

While the Uchiha were a close knit clan, they also have a very dark past. One which certainly began before Madara taking Izuna's eyes, as Itachi has shown us this week.

I think this is the primary reason for the "overuse" of Izanagi that Itachi speaks of.

This would also make it more likely that Izanami would actually be used on them, thus making it a better "deterrent" imo.

Exactly, Don't worry. Most of the base cannot understand basic english and most translations from the manga are incorrect however, I do agree with you one-hundred percent. Izanami is like a nuclear weapon, use as a deterrent to change the error of their ways to those who have the ability to use Izanagi like they are giving out sweets.
