I have recently done some research regarding Izanami and ultimately concluded, that it undoubtfully is the most potent Genjutsu of all other higher ranked Uchiha Genjutsu we are presently aware of.

Originally, Izanami was created in order to counter other high level Uchiha members who have gone mad with power, relying on their use of Izanagi.

The technique as we know it only carries one single weakness, that is the "escape route" which can be engaged as soon as an opponent has come to terms with his corruption.

This was once meant to provide a chance for mentally corrupted Uchiha to redeem themselves and their honor.

Considering the very detailed explanation by Itachi, I suspect, that this escape route could be easily excluded from the jutsu, rendering it with virtually no escape and therefor leaving an opponent completely defenseless within an infinite Genjutsu loop.
Judging by the process of the loop and the drawing, the escape route was only an added function.
I believe that originally Izanami implemented an infinte loop, and the escape was simply added postmaturely,
allowing the caster to control the outcome, loop count and possible exit at their discretion.
Even with the escape route intact, the opponent is most definitely rendered unconscious, while circling the loop for several vital moments of time before he realizes that he is even in a Genjutsu, which is enough time for the caster to seal, physically attack or otherwise cause the castee´s demise.
Also a big factor is availability, since Izanami could be performed by virtually anyone with a mere Sharingan, unlike the other high level Gen

And since Izanami does not require eye contact of any sort, it could literally be cast upon anyone, since there is absolutely no defense or counter against it.

Even though the user is able to freely manipulate time regarding Tsukiyomi, within the caster´s own realm time still passes regularly, therefor eventually Itachi would have to cease performing the technique.
Also it requires eye contact and is therefor useless against experienced or knowledgable shinobi.

With Koto-Amatsukami the effects, even though its casting is completely undetectable and doesn´t require eye contact, are still negligible in terms of actual and immediate damage considering prior use or indications concerning intent to use it. Also note that this jutsu requires a decade before being able to be cast again if Senju Cells aren´t involved, while with Izanami there are two tries.

Lastly I would like to point out, that we currently do not know the effects of Uchiha Visual Kinjutsu on the EMS, it might very well be that an EMS user is capable of performing Izanami and Izanagi multiple times without any risks to their eyesight.

Nice analysis but, izanami and izanagi are not connected to MS or EMS.

EMS makes sure the light does not go out for having an MS

Izanagi and izanami seals the eye for its use.

Meaning regardless of what stage of eyes you have there sealed once you cast the genjustu.

Great thread.

This point is debatable. Wouldn't that make an EMS user too OP?
