But you're right. The fact he was introduced so late makes it feel semi-semi-forced. He could've wrote in a lil dad flashback stuff earlier, maybe during Gai vs Kisame or something.

Then the readers could've had a "Hmmm I wonder what happened to his dad" feel and then the truth be revealed here U_U

The only thing I can see made sense is that he died protecting the main house so he showed he accepted his role as a branch member or something.....it still was so random

I feel like it could've been Hinata's dad to make the sacrifice and the result to the plot would be the same

We knew nothing of Guy's past, it's only right for him to get flashbacks before he dies since he is having a pretty important role and has been a character with plenty of screen time since the beginning.

Neji on the other hand got flashbacks and development in part one, he didn't need a flashback before his death. People cared as well, and the SA's attack on Madara Obito and the Jubi had a huge symbolic reference to Neji - a caged bird escaping its cage. I suggest you reread that.

Neji's death was also for shock value, Gai's death has been foreshadowed for a long time now

How present has Neji been in the story tho? You think he'll be more important than Gai? Kakashi and Gai are close friendly rivals, Gai killed Kisame and has done waaaaaaay more impact in Naruto than Neji ever did. Neji has barely had any character development in Part 2.

Also how does this make Kishi a bad writer? he made a chapter to his own story which he felt was needed. It wasn't the most exciting chapter but it progressed the story by showing us why Gai's the way he is, yet you say that about the creator of a masterpiece.

Sometimes we forget this is the story of Naruto as Kishi see's it and thats the way it should be. He can't please all of us and if he did what every fan wanted to see then it woudn't be his story it would be something artificial. All we can do is appreciate his vision for the show and so far its been amazing if you ask me.

That's not true, Neji had his chance to shine in the past as well and I don't mean just as a fighter but as a complete character while it's the very first time to see Gai from a more dimensional view and quite touching to tell you the truth.

Gai bout to die and gets flashbacks, multiple chapters, characters actually caring (seriously, Neji's death only had one line "Neji's dead!?" and shocked faces, nothing more)

Neji got a LOT of attention on his death.. all of that simbolism of an eagle and a cage

His death is BS, thats why you should watch Anime instead cause hopefully there's going to be more filler padding gving Neji spotlight with showing all these movesets before he dies hopefully it serves more justice in the Anime than in the manga.

Also, there's is still slight chance of hope that we're going to see Neji Spirit in the shape of Phoenix in some way shape of form in the VIZ Scan when Hinata Quoted: Neji... Please Protect Naruto!!
