... that how sometimes, the best drawn anime and manga are the worst when it comes to cliche usage and plot execution.
I mean, in the first chapter (counting the cliches, not the unnecessary ones like black hair and the works):
- We have an ecchi start to the story.
- The little sister jumps on her big brother.
- The big brother is a lazy genius.
- The little sister is bossing around her little brother.
- He finds/bumps into a little girl (chance meeting with a girl) carrying a coffin.
- The girl is a tsundere goth-loli.
- They have a misunderstanding.
- An enemy suddenly pops up.
- After running away, the brother gets a wound.
- For no reason at all, he starts becoming apathetic and curses the world.
- The girl cheers him up even though she knows NOTHING about the guy and whips out a gun-shaped wand.
- It turns out she can't move during incantation, so the brother becomes her temporary shield.
- The brother has a berserk mode.
- The girl chants in Gregorian-choir style (putting your hands in prayer).
- She shoots using the rifle, which confuses the hell out of me.
- She has 2 personalities, the awesome and beautiful in-battle personality, and the tsundere annoying little sister personality out of it.
- She gives him a reason to live.
THE END
Now tell me, how many cliches did you spot? I can name almost 5 anime per line I wrote there that has that kind of characteristic.
I'm not saying cliches are bad. Yet if they're overdone BADLY, now there's an issue.
It's sad how these kinds of media have become. They used to be so awesome back in the day. Now it's just boobs, swords, panties, bishies, lazors, and did I mention boobs? Way to be original there.
