I've been waiting for kishi's solution on the "peace" issue since the Pain arc, and this fight solved it perfectly. But the key to this solution is: neither must be able to vanquish the other, but the win/lose result comes from one yielding from this stalemate.
Its imperative that naruto does not defeat sasuke as in vanquishing him by force, for that would be a repeat of the winner/loser grudge cycle, an inevitability of human nature. If naruto really did destroy sasuke by sheer power, it would just be a repeat of the hashirama/madara scenario, and nothing is solved.
So since theres always a winner and a loser, how can the grudge be avoided? Kishi gave the perfect solution, the result of who won came out of yielding, born of love, instead of from domination by force, which would give birth to further hatred and conflict.
Sasuke admitting loss to naruto even kinda reminds me of Walter "admitting" to Skyler he was cooking just for himself and not at all for the family in the Breaking Bad finale... It calls for one side to yield out of love, if peace is to be had.
Thing about the eternal brothers grudge... One brother was always stronger than the other and vanquished the other. Ashura and Indra were always rivals but not equals, just like madara was always just a bit weaker than hashirama. Sasuke and naruto are the first true equals among the reincarnations, which makes all this possible.
Peace came from yielding from a tie, not admittance to defeat by force. If naruto actually "beat" sasuke physically the cycle would have continued and nothing would have changed.
