Anyone who thinks Itama had a small role and was pointless in the new chapter is stupid.

Itama completed his role in the series perfectely; That entire chapter was about the young children dying in war because a brash and violent adults.

So what does Kishi do? He introduces a new character- a Senju brother, in fact- and makes you believe he could have a larger role.

But what does he do?

He kills him off not even 2 pages later. This is exactly what Kishi wanted, and that was to show just how immoral the Shinobi world was then. The shock of seeing a young child we had just met killed off in the same chapter only solidifies the point of the chapter.

Kishi is a great writer. Itama's death is what put this chapter in my top ten.

You can cry about "character development", but you'd only be making yourself look stupid because that wasn't the point of Itama.

You make a point, mate, except...

Lol exactly who was shocked over a death of a drawn black and white brat?

Agreed, if the death of Kawarama wasn't enough (he was 7 years old), he even added on the death of Hashirama and Tobirama's little brother (presumably even younger than Kawarama).

I don't see what that has to do with anything. Shock comes from anything unexpected. If Kishi confirmed Naruto would be ending in 3 chapters you would be shocked.

And don't deny that, you would.

I agree that he played a significant role in Hashirama's back-story's plot development, but I doubt he has any correlation with Zetsu.

Quite so! It is even reinforced by the fact that he is never talked about!

Agreed. It adds shock value and believability of Hashirama's and Madara's motivations and actions.

I agree. And for people that think he's related to Zetsu, it's quite simple. His mom must have had white hair.

Totally agreed, his character made the point even though he appeared for a few pages i still felt for his death, mainly because he died at a very young age because of too many guys ganging up on him and the war(he looked so scared, poor kid). Also Hashirama said he didn't want to see his brothers die invain anymore, couldn't protecting a loved one is a big pain.
