I don't think the Hokage had the time or privacy to train an Uchiha prodigy in secret??

However there is another person who has time and privacy enough to train Itachi and who together with Hiruzen planned the Uchiha murder = Danzo ..

Ofcourse Hiruzen had contact with Itachi as well, but training him would've been difficult as he was the Hokage and such

Itachi doesn't need master or teacher he's the master on his own

Nicely said!!^^ IMO, I think he didn't need the 3rd. At age seven he had the mentality of a kage!!

He thought the 3rd everything he knew.
