Most people think that Itachi's plan to stop Madara was by canceling Edo Tensei, but that's not it. As everyone who follows the series knows that Itachi knows the outcome of every situation FAR beforehand. He also has great alternatives for when his plans fail, which in the end bring out the exact or better outcome. He's like the omnipotent Uchiha that Madara fails to be.
Moving on, when Itachi said he would stop Madara, he didn't mean Edo Tensei cancellation, although it did help to eliminate all the other Edos. BUT the reason he defeated Kabuto the way he did was to get Kabuto to help Sauce reach a higher level to help defeat Rikudou Madara. Think about it, he could have cast izanami on Kabuto and then seal him with Totsuka, but he kept him alive for a reason. Itachi is too ****ing smart for the rest of the shinobi, not even Tobirama or Minato would be able to grasp the complexities of Itachi's mental capabilities. So everything you see happening now are results of Itachi's plan to defeat Madara. Itachi is the wisest in the manga and very powerful too.
