Kishimoto didn't decide to forcibly keep him alive for the sake of it.

He simply died, nipped back to have a quick tango with Kabuto and went back to being dead. As for Obito though, he was forced alive right through a whole other arc despite him being on the precipice the whole time.

As I recall, Itachi's name was only mentions once or twice in Gaiden anyway and his story within the Uchiha is much more notable anyway - son of a clan leader, older brother of a transmigrant and protector of the clan name. Obito's story is simply Uchiha orphan - simply because his story revolves around Rin and Tsuki no Me.

obito was healed by naruto bc one kind deed deserves another and it gave him a final mission to run alongside others for the first time in 17 years like he wanted as a kid.
shin wanted to restart akatsuki but no mention of pain or obito or the war -.-

mainly i just see this as a way to sell a book. itachis feeling and intentions are already known. (jk about obito book btw)
