Itachi's Mangekyou

I know this is a bit weird question for a lot of you, but can i know how exactly Itachi got his Mangekyou Sharingan?

I am aware that you have to take the life of someone beloved to you in order get the Mangekyou. But I don't understand, Itachi didn't exactly kill Uchiha Shisui did he? Because while explaining to Naruto about the Koto Amatsukami, Itachi mentions that Shisui gave his last remaining left eye to him and he(Shisui) disappeared. So Itachi didn't kill Shisui (...?). How exactly Uchiha Itachi obtain the Mangekyou Sharingan?

Its the sensation / feeling / emotional surge which activates the eye. That is what probably happens to Itachi as he see his friend die without him being able to help. (a death due to his incapacity to prevent it, can be in a way mean to him as death by him.)
